Records tumble in latest Lynx victory

Last update: June 4, 2008 - 8:27 PM

One WNBA and four Lynx team records were set or tied in Minnesota's 85-81 victory at Atlanta on Tuesday.

In the fourth quarter, the two teams averaged seven points a minute for 70 total, the most points in one quarter in league history.

The Lynx made 10 of 14 shots from the field (71.4 percent) in the fourth quarter, the Dream 13 of 19 (68.4 percent). Each team made three of six attempts from behind the arc. On the free throw line, the Lynx were 13 of 15, Atlanta 5 of 5.

And the ballhandling was sharp, too. Minnesota had one turnover, Atlanta two.

Guard Candice Wiggins scored 15 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter, within two of the team record for points in a quarter set by Seimone Augustus.

Guard Betty Lennox of the Dream matched Wiggins and more. Lennox, a former Lynx, scored 19 of her 28 points in the final 10 minutes. She made eight of 10 shots, including three three-pointers. Her 19 points is the second most scored in a quarter by one player in the 12-year history of the WNBA.

Diana Taurasi of Phoenix had 22 points against San Antonio in the third quarter of a game on July 14, 2006.

The Lynx (5-0), the league's last unbeaten team, have moved up from No. 12 to No. 2 in wnba.com's weekly power rankings. The Los Angeles Sparks are No. 1 in this week's rankings released Wednesday.

The Lynx' next game is Friday at Connecticut, featuring former Gopher star Lindsay Whalen.
