Nebraska Omaha beat North Dakota 1-0 on Saturday in a game that came down to the last second.

Alex Hudson scored at 19:59 of the thid period at the Qwest Center in Omaha. Matt Ambroz of UNO took two shots, the second bounced off a defenseman's skates to Hudson. It was his sixth goal of the season.

Referees reviewed the play to make sure there was time left. The clock read 0:00 as the Mavericks rejoiced.

John Faulkner made 30 saves for the shutout, his third of the season.

NoDak edged UNO 6-5 on Friday as Matt Frattin had two goals and one assist. Sophomore Danny Kristo scored the game-winner at 14:26 of the third period before 11,181 at the Qwest, the second largest crowd in UNO history.

Hudson, Terry Broadhurst and Joey Martin all had one goal and one assist for UNO.

The Mavericks are off this weekend.

WISCONSIN STUNNED TWICE

If the Badgers miss home ice for the WCHA playoffs by a point or two or barely miss being selected for the NCAA tournament, they can look back to this weekend.

Visiting UMD came to the Kohl Center and broke the fans hearts twice. The No. 1-rated Bulldogs beat the Badgers in overtime twice, 6-5 and 3-2.

Kyle Schmidt scored in the second period for UMD and Mike Connolly scored on a short-handed breakaway in the third.

Defenseman Jake Gardiner, a former Minnetonka star, had a goal for the Badgers in the second. Teammate Jordy Murray got his 10th goal of the season at 10:01 of the third period to tie the score at 2-2.

Jack Connolly (no relation to Mike) got the game-winner on a 3-on-2 rush in overtime.

The Badgers outshot UMD 35-24.

On Friday, center Travis Oleksuk scored his fifth game-winner with 11 seconds left in overtime. He is living a charmed season so far. Both he and teammate Mike Seidel had two goals in the game.

Next for Wisconsin is the College Showcase, the same event the Gophers are part of.

Michigan plays at Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Friday and then Michigan State visits at 8 p.m. Saturday.

DENVER ON ROLL

Denver swept Bemidji State 3-1, 4-2. Senior Anthony Maiani scored the game-winner the second night on a rebound at 7:10 of the thid period.

The Beavers led 2-1 after the first period. Freshman Nick Shore of the Pioneers tied the score at 2-2 at 18:37 of the second period. It was his first college goal. Maiani made it 3-2 in the third period and Jason Zucker, the Wild draft pick, scored an empty-net goal in the last minute of play.

The victory was the fourth in a row for DU, now 7-2-1 in the WCHA.

"[Saturday] was very disappointing," Beavers coach Tom Serratore said. "They are a good hockey team, we all know that, but we had a 2-1 lead and we let it get away."

Zucker also had one goal and one assist, as did defensman Matt Donovan in the Pios' 3-1 victory on Friday. DU held the Beavers to 15 shots.

DU is 7-0-0 all-time against the Beavers.

ST. CLOUD STATE STRUGGLING

The biggest disappointment in the WCHA so far is probably St. Cloud State. The Huskies were picked to finish second or third in the preseason polls and they are mired in seventh place with a 3-4-1 record in WCHA play.

SCSU did edge Alaska Anchorage 4-3 late Saturday to break a four-game winless streak. So that was a positive.

Junior Drew LeBlanc had two goals and an assist for the Huskies. Freshman forward Cam Reid of Delta, British Columbia scored the game-winner at 4:12 of the third period.

The power play goal was the Huskies' second on a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct given UAA's Brad Gorham early in the third period. Jared Festler scored at 1:40.

Reid's goal made the score 4-2. Mark Pustin of UAA scored at 9:05 of the third period to close the gap.

SCSU was 2 for 8 on the power play, UAA 2 for 3.

On Friday, Mitch Bruijsten scored at 3:34 of overtime as Alaska Anchorage edged SCSU 3-2. UAA goalie Chris Kamal had 18 saves, Huskies goalie Mike Lee had 17.

GOPHER TIDBITS

* Minnesota is 4-0-0 on the road this season, sweeping Colorado College and Michigan Tech. The Gophers are averaging 5.75 goals per game in those four victories. They have outscored their road opponents 23-10.

* Senior left winger Mike Hoeffel has a good chance at being the WCHA's Offensive Player of the Week. He scored two goals on Friday and Saturday as the Gophers beat MTech 6-4 and 4-1. The big weekend increased his season total from three goals to seven.

BSU SIGNINGS

The Beavers have signed defenseman Sam Windle, a 6-4, 200-pound defenseman for the Chicago Steel of the USHL, and defenseman Matt Prapavessis, a 6-2, 189-pound defenseman for Lincoln of the USHL.

Windle, of Maple Grove, played high school hockey for Osseo.

"Windle is an exciting prospect that is blooing as a player right now," said Ted Belisle, BSU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. "He is a tall, athletic defenseman who has the necessary skills to be very successful in the WCHA."
