No. 14 Michigan swept the 12th-ranked Gophers volleyball team Friday night, winning 25-23, 25-14, 27-25 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Gophers lost after leading by six points in the first set and five points in the third.
The Wolverines (24-7, 12-6 Big Ten) had 55 kills to 35 for the Gophers (21-8, 12-5) and had 69 digs, 22 more than Minnesota. The Wolverines hit .269, the Gophers .168.
Lauren Gibbemeyer led the Gophers with 10 kills, four blocks and four digs, while Jessica Grandquist finished with a team-high 12 digs.
Juliana Paz led Michigan with 23 kills, nine digs, two solo blocks and a .450 hitting percentage. The Gophers play at Michigan State tonight.
Gophers skate past BSUThe Gophers got goals from four players in a 4-2 victory over Bemidji State in women's hockey at Ridder Arena.
Kelli Blankenship and Sarah Erickson scored in the second period and Terra Rasmussen and Emily West (empty netter) closed out the scoring in the third for the Gophers (10-2-1, 8-2-1 WCHA).
Blankenship and Rasmussen each had a goal and an assist. Winning goalie Noora Raty made 19 saves. Erin Cody and Annie Bauerfeld scored third-period goals for Bemidji State.
Division II volleyballTop-seeded and unbeaten Concordia (St. Paul) advanced to the NCAA Central regional final with a 25-14, 25-10, 25-20 sweep of Wayne State at Concordia's Gangelhoff Center.
The Golden Eagles (32-0) will face seventh-seeded Metro State (Colo.) in the final tonight. Metro State eliminated 15th-ranked Minnesota Duluth with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-15 sweep in the semifinals and denied the Bulldogs a sixth consecutive berth in the regional final.
The Roadrunners (26-7) eliminated No. 2 seed Southwest Minnesota State in the first round.
