What: A three-team round-robin tournament at Williams Arena
When: Illinois-Chicago (0-3) lost to Colorado (2-0) on Friday. The Gophers (1-1) play Illinois-Chicago at 6 p.m. today and Colorado at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Radio: Both Gophers games on 88.5-FM.
About the Gophers: Coach Pam Borton was pleased with the defense, but her team struggled to hit open shots and was outrebounded in a 60-59 loss to Utah on Tuesday. "Our thing right now is consistency," she said. Ashley Ellis-Milan will receive a commemorative game ball before tonight's game after scoring her 1,000th career point in the season-opener against Lamar.
About the opponents: Borton said both the Flames and Buffaloes play up-tempo basketball. Both teams have local products on their rosters. The Flames have senior center Cassie Johnson (Eastview), senior guard Jessie Miller (Holy Angels) and sophomore guard-forward Kiara Strickland (Roosevelt). Colorado has junior guard Kelly Jo Mullaney (Breck). The Buffaloes also have a player named Whitney Houston and a player named Brittany Spears. No kidding.
