NCAA playoff bids put Johnnies, Tommies on a collision course

The winners of the St. John's-Coe and St. Thomas-Monmouth games will meet in the second round Nov. 28

MIAC champion St. John's and MIAC runner-up St. Thomas received berths Sunday in the NCAA Division III football playoffs.

WIAC champion Wisconsin-Whitewater also made the field.

St. John's (10-0), which is making its 11th playoff appearance in the past 12 seasons, will play host to Coe (9-1) on Saturday.

St. Thomas, which received its first playoff bid in 19 years, will travel to Monmouth (Ill.) for a Saturday game. The Tommies (9-1) reached nine victories for the first time since 1983. Monmouth is 10-0.

The winners of the St. John's-Coe and St. Thomas-Monmouth games will meet in the second round Nov. 28.

Wisconsin-Whitewater, which has won five consecutive WIAC titles and reached the NCAA Division III championship game the past four seasons, was the only WIAC team to receive a bid. The Warhawks (10-0) will play host to Lakeland.
