Lin hits 3-pointer at buzzer, ends 3 OT thriller as Harvard sinks William & Mary 87-85

Last update: November 15, 2009 - 4:38 PM

BOSTON - Jeremy Lin hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer in triple overtime, sealing Harvard's wild 87-85 win over William & Mary in a matchup of the nation's two oldest colleges on Saturday.

Up until Lin's game-winning basket, it was William & Mary that had scored the final points in every frame in the contest.

It looked like that would be the case again in the third overtime.

After Lin and Oliver McNally sank five consecutive free throws to put the Crimson (2-0) ahead 84-83 with 25 seconds left, Sean McCurdy's layup put the Tribe (0-2) back up 85-84 with 4 seconds left.

That set up Lin's big shot.

Lin, the only player in college basketball last season to rank among the top 10 players in his conference in every statistical category, led Harvard with 19 points. He also had nine assists and two steals. McNally added 17 points.

Quinn McDowell paced the Tribe with 23 points.
