PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sharaud Curry scored 17 points and Bilal Dixon added nine rebounds as Providence won a gritty 76-65 victory over Bucknell on Saturday night.
Bryan Cohen netted a game-high 18 points for the Bison.
Bucknell led by as many as seven points in the first half, but aggressive Providence defense and a 22-13 rebounding advantage narrowed the deficit to 36-34 at halftime.
Consecutive 3-pointers by freshman Duke Mondy gave Providence a 48-45 lead 6:13 into the second half, as the Friars (2-0) inched away from the Bison (0-2) due to Curry's strong second half. The senior point guard shot 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and added three 3-pointers, which accounted for all of his team-high output.
Marshon Brooks added 15 points for the Friars, who face undefeated Mercer in the final game of the World Vision Invitational on Sunday. Bucknell plays Bryant in the other game.
