Edwards scores 3 TDs as Appalachian State wins fifth straight SoCon title with 27-10 win

ELON, N.C. - Armanti Edwards threw for 281 yards, rushed for three touchdowns and Appalachian State clinched its fifth straight Southern Conference title with a 27-10 win over Elon on Saturday.

Edwards, who was 21-for-24 passing, also rushed for 73 yards on 10 carries for the Mountaineers (8-2, 7-0). Appalachian State also snapped the Phoenix's six-game winning streak.

The Mountaineers took a 21-0 lead in the second quarter after Edwards scored on runs of 15, 6 and 3 yards. Matt Cline finished with eight catches for 104 yards.

Terrell Hudgins caught 10 passes for 127 yards for his 26th career 100-yard game for Elon (8-2, 6-1).

Appalachian State had three interceptions against Elon quarterback Scott Riddle, who was 20-for-34 for 212 yards. Riddle also threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Mellette in the fourth quarter.
