Last update: November 14, 2009 - 5:48 PM

THIBODAUX, La. - LaQuintin Caston threw three touchdown passes and Nicholls State held off Northwestern State 28-21 on Saturday.

Caston was 5-for-8 for 197 yards. He had an 82-yard scoring pass to Anton Robinson for the Colonels' first score, then threw consecutive touchdown passes to Mike Barba, the second a 64-yarder, for a 21-7 lead with 11:26 left in the third quarter.

A Northwestern State fumble set up the final touchdown for Nicholls State (2-8, 1-5 Southland Conference), a 65-yard run by A.J. Williams with 6:16 remaining.

The Demons' final drive ended with an interception by Dominic Daniels in the end zone on fourth-and-9 from the Nicholls State 15 with just over a minute to go. A holding penalty had erased an earlier Northwestern State touchdown.

Paul Harris was 18-for-30 for 261 yards and one touchdown for the Demons (0-10, 0-6) with two interceptions.
