Wisconsin-Milwaukee beats Concordia-St. Paul 89-73

MILWAUKEE - Ricky Franklin scored 21 points and James Eayrs finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Wisconsin-Milwaukee defeated Concordia-St. Paul 89-73 in its season opener Friday.

The Panthers were outshot from the field 51.8-46.5 percent, but got 18 points off second-chance opportunities and 20 points at the free-throw line.

Craig Heiman led the Golden Bears with 23 points.

Four of the five starters finished in double-figures for Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with Deonte Roberts adding 12 points and Tony Meier chipping in with 11.

The Panthers had a tough night from behind the 3-point line. They missed their first 15 3-point attempts before Franklin connected with 48 seconds to go in the first half. The team ended the game 3-for-24 from long distance but shot 63.8 percent from inside the 3-point line (30-of-47).
