In wake of exit by Lofquist, U quells Schroeder rumors

Last update: November 12, 2009 - 5:29 AM

Defenseman Sam Lofquist, who left the Gophers men's hockey team on Monday, was practicing with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League on Wednesday.

He is expected to play in the Storm's next game on Friday. Guelph has had a handful of injuries lately.

A rumor about sophomore center Jordan Schroeder's imminent departure also was circulating widely on the Internet. To quash it, the Gophers took the unusual step of issuing a news release.

"I am fully committed to this team and university," Schroeder is quoted as saying. "I have no intention of leaving college early to play pro hockey."

Schroeder was taken by Vancouver in the first round of the NHL draft in June, 22nd overall.
