Police: Seton Hall men's basketball player Keon Lawrence was drunk in wrong-way crash

Last update: November 10, 2009 - 5:50 AM

SAYREVILLE, N.J. - Authorities say a Seton Hall University men's basketball player was drunk when he caused a wrong-way crash on the Garden State Parkway.

A state police spokesman says Keon Lawrence has been charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones says the 22-year-old drove the wrong way in the southbound express lanes near Sayreville and hit another vehicle early Monday.

Lawrence and the driver of the other car were treated for minor injuries.

The junior guard transferred from the University of Missouri in 2008. He was ineligible to play last season.

Seton Hall says it's still gathering information about the incident.

Lawrence tells The Record of Bergen County he had been in an accident, but denies that he's been charged with driving while intoxicated.
