BIG TEN BOWL PROJECTIONS
Christmas in Detroit, anyone? That just might be where the Gophers end up -- in the Little Caesar's Bowl on Dec. 26 -- if they can win one more game. Saturday's developments, especially losses by Iowa and Penn State, made it likely that the Big Ten will send only one team to the Bowl Championship Series. That means the rest of the league drops down in the bowl pecking order. College football editor Randy Johnson takes a look at how the conference's bowl lineup could end up.

Comment: Saturday's Buckeyes-Hawkeyes winner clinches a Rose Bowl trip.
Iowa (9-1, 5-1) at OSU, vs. Gophers 10-2, 6-2 Capital One (Jan. 1, Orlando, Fla.)
Comment: Loss of QB Ricky Stanzi hurts, but Hawkeyes will smell roses if they beat OSU.
Penn State (8-2, 4-2) vs. Ind., at MSU 10-2, 6-2 Outback (Jan. 1, Tampa, Fla.)
Comment: Another loss wouldn't be surprising for this inconsistent Nittany Lions team.
Wisconsin (7-2, 4-2) vs. Mich, at NW, at Hawaii 10-2, 6-2 Champs Sports (Dec. 29, Orlando)
Comment: Trips to Hawaii and Florida wouldn't be a bad way to end the season.
Michigan State (5-5, 3-3) at Purdue, vs. PSU 6-6, 4-4 Alamo (Jan. 2, San Antonio)
Comment: Those Alamo Bowl folks just might pick the Spartans over Northwestern.
Northwestern (6-4, 3-3) at Illinois, vs. Wis. 7-5, 4-4 Insight (Dec. 31, Tempe, Ariz.)
Comment: Alamo is possible, but Insight is more likely.
Gophers (5-5, 3-4) vs. SDSU, at Iowa 6-6, 3-5 Little Caesar's (Dec. 26, Detroit)
Comment: They've avoided a bowl trip to Detroit so far. Not likely anymore.
OUTSIDE, LOOKING IN
Michigan (5-5, 1-5): Must win at Wisconsin or beat Ohio State at home to gain bowl eligibility.
Purdue (4-6, 3-3): Needs to beat Michigan State and Indiana to gain bowl eligibility.
Indiana (4-6, 1-5): Must beat Penn State and Purdue to get to six victories.
Illinois (3-6, 2-5): Must run table -- vs. Northwestern, at Cincinnati and vs. Fresno State.
