Gophers defeat Purdue in volleyball for ninth consecutive time

Junior Hailey Cowles had 12 kills to lead the Gophers volleyball team to its ninth consecutive victory over Purdue, 25-22, 25-22, 25-17 on Sunday at the Sports Pavilion.

Freshman Tabitha Love added 10 kills for the Gophers (19-7, 10-4 Big Ten), who are ranked No. 12 in the nation.

Christine Tan had 12 kills, and Jessica Granquist and Taylor Carico each added 11 digs for the Gophers.

Freshman Ariel Turner had 10 kills and six digs to lead Purdue (12-13, 4-10), and Kristen Arthurs added eight kills.

The Gophers will play at Iowa at 7 p.m. Friday, then travel to Wisconsin for a 1 p.m. match Sunday.

• The Gophers rowing team completed its fall season at the Head of the Lake in Seattle on Sunday. Minnesota competed in the Women's Collegiate Open 8+ and placed fifth.

• Kayli Schumacher had 11 kills and led St. Benedict to a 25-20, 25-22, 25-11 sweep of visiting St. Olaf in the MIAC volleyball championship on Saturday.
