Area roundup: Huskies hand Mavericks first loss

Dante Steward's 3-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds remaining lifted St. Cloud State to a 26-21 victory over visiting MSU Mankato on Saturday.

The touchdown capped a 10-play, 95-yard drive as the Huskies handed the Mavericks, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, their first loss of the season.

Derek Stripling rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to lead the Huskies.

Jake Aberg rushed for 148 yards to lead the Mavericks.

In other NSIC games:

Augustana 47, Northern State 19: Luke Butler passed for four touchdowns and Joe Clark rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown to lead the host Vikings to the victory.

Bemidji State 35, Concordia (St. Paul) 20: Derek Edholm passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the visiting Beavers past the Golden Bears.

Minn. Duluth 41, Winona State 16: The visiting Bulldogs pulled away in the second half for the victory. Isaac Odim rushed for 131 yards and scored three second-half touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who led 13-9 at halftime.

SW Minnesota State 52, MSU Moorhead 10: Ryan Ratekin threw four touchdown passes and Zach Wysong rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown to lead the host Mustangs to the victory.

Upper Iowa 39, Minn.-Crookston 33: The visiting Peacocks scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes and then held on for the victory. Upper Iowa trailed 26-25 before scoring twice in a 1:41 span to take a 39-26 lead. The Golden Eagles scored with 20 seconds remaining to get within 39-33.

Crown 69, Eureka 63: Tyler Hallblade rushed for 184 yards and four touchdowns as the Storm outlasted the host Red Devils.

Martin Luther 59, St. Scholastica 22: The host Knights built a 46-0 lead in the first half and coasted to the victory in New Ulm, Minn. Andrew Becker and Aaron Voss each rushed for two touchdowns for the Knights.

WIAC

Wis.-Eau Claire 27, Wis.-La Crosse 17: Kyle Paulson passed for 290 yards and two touchdowns for the Blugolds, who rallied from a 10-0 deficit. Reid Oldenburg rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns for La Crosse.

Wis.-Stevens Point 45, Wis.-River Falls 15: Jared Beckwith passed for 279 yards and three touchdowns and Garrett Medenwald rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns to pace the host Pointers.

Wis.-Stout 43, Wis.-Platteville 10: The host Blue Devils built a 29-3 halftime lead en route to the victory.

Wis.-Whitewater 40, Wis.-Oshkosh 7: Levell Coppage rushed for 209 yards and three TDs for the host Warhawks.
