Gophers' Leddy gets metal brace for broken jaw

The freshman defenseman had surgery Monday.

Last update: November 2, 2009 - 11:33 PM

Nick Leddy, injured in the Gophers' hockey victory over Alaska Anchorage on Friday, had surgery Monday to insert a metal brace in his broken jaw. The freshman defenseman was checked by Jade Portwood of the Seawolves on a shoulder-to-head hit as Leddy crossed the neutral zone. No penalty was called, although Gophers coach Don Lucia said Sunday he thought the hit was illegal and asked the WCHA to review it.

Leddy, who led Eden Prairie to the Class AA state title last season and was a first-round draft pick of the Wild, is expected to return to action in mid-December.
