Big Ten bowl projections

Last update: November 2, 2009 - 1:11 AM

Staff writer Kent Youngblood and college football editor Randy Johnson take an educated guess on how the Big Ten bowl picture will shake out:

Iowa: current record 9-0, 5-0; projected record: 11-1, 7-1; projected bowl: Rose (Jan. 1, Pasadena, Calif.)

A trip to Ohio State will sink the Hawkeyes' national title hopes.

Penn State: 8-1, 4-1; 11-1, 7-1; Fiesta (Jan. 4, Glendale, Ariz.)

The Nittany Lions win out and end up in familiar bowl destination.

Ohio State: 7-2, 4-1; 9-3, 6-2; Capital One (Jan. 1, Orlando)

The Buckeyes could move up if they beat Penn State.

Wisconsin: 6-2, 3-2; 10-2, 6-2; Outback (Jan. 1, Tampa, Fla.)

The Capital One also is possibility.

Gophers: 5-4, 3-3; 7-5, 4-4; Champs Sports (Dec. 29, Orlando)

The U must beat Illinois to have a shot at this bowl.

Michigan State: 4-5, 3-3; 6-6, 4-4; Alamo (Jan. 2, San Antonio)

The Alamo could take Michigan, but MSU owns a victory over the Wolverines.

Michigan: 5-4, 1-4; 6-6, 2-4l Insight (Dec. 31, Tempe, Ariz.)

The Wolverines' tough finish: at Wisconsin, vs. Ohio State.

Northwestern: 5-4, 2-3; 6-6, 3-5; Little Caesar's (Dec. 26, Detroit)

If the Wildcats upset Iowa this week, they'll move up.
