Area school update: Saturday's games to watch

THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES TO WATCH

Greenville (4-2) vs. Northwestern of Roseville (5-3), at Metrodome, today, 8 p.m. This matchup is the final of five games that make up UMAC Dome Day. Greenville, of Greenville, Ill. , had a three-game winning streak ended last week in a 40-14 loss at Huntingdon. The Panthers have relied on a defense that has forced 18 turnovers in six games. Northwestern, which has won four of its past five games, also has a strong defense, which is second in the UMAC in scoring defense (21.9 points per game). Northwestern has scored 101 points in its past two games (55-28 victory over St. Scholastica and a 46-16 victory over Minnesota-Morris).

Augsburg (4-3, 3-2 MIAC) at St. Thomas (6-1, 5-1), 1 p.m.

Augsburg, which opened the season with three losses in its first four games, has won three consecutive games. Auggies quarterback Marcus Brumm has passed for 741 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 231 yards and three touchdowns in the past three games. St. Thomas, which is ranked No. 16 in the NCAA Division III poll, rebounded from its only loss of the season (20-17 to St. John's on Oct. 17) with a 48-28 victory over Carleton last Saturday.

Wayne State (6-3, 3-2 NSIC South) at Concordia of St. Paul (3-6, 2-3), 1 p.m.

Wayne State is coming off a 27-24 loss to Augustana at home which dropped the Wildcats, who were ranked No. 22, out of the Division II Top 25. Wildcats quarterback Silas Fluellen is the NSIC's record-holder in career total offense. Concordia brings a two-game winning streak into the game. The Golden Bears defeated Southwest Minnesota State 29-17 on Oct. 17. Last Saturday, the Golden Bears outlasted Upper Iowa 57-56 in two overtimes. Golden Bears quarterback Mitch Brecke passed for more than 300 yards in each of the two victories. He had 386 yards and three touchdowns in a 57-56, double-overtime victory over Upper Iowa.

PLAYERS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Mike Nourie, Augsburg receiver

The senior from Nicollet, Minn., caught nine passes for 129 yards and two TDs in the Auggies' 28-21 victory over Gustavus. On the season, he has 48 receptions for 643 yards.

Calvin Simon, Concordia (St. Paul) receiver

Simon, a junior from Shakopee, caught six passes for a career-high 200 yards and two TDs in the Golden Bears' victory over Upper Iowa. He has catches in 30 consecutive games.

St. Cloud State players who rushed for at least 100 yards in the Huskies' 35-17 victory over Mary last Saturday. Derek Stripling (154 yards), Dante Steward (108) and Jake Machacek (100) combined to become the first trio in school history to rush for at least 100 yards in the same game.

Receiving yards for Augustana's Sam Holsen in a 27-24 victory over Wayne State. Holsen caught 11 passes and scored two touchdowns. The 267 yards are the second most in NSIC history. The NSIC single-game record is 289, set by Minnesota-Morris' Billy Beckwith in 1999.
