Bemidji, Minn. – Co-captain Sydney Baldwin scored at 1 minute, 4 seconds of overtime to give the Gophers a 4-3 victory over Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon in a WCHA women's hockey game at the Sanford Center.

Baldwin, a senior defenseman from Minnetonka, leads No. 9 Minnesota (3-2-1, 2-1-1 WCHA) with eight assists this season, including one in this game, but this was her first goal.

The Gophers also won the series opener, 3-1.

"Our team came a long way this weekend," Minnesota coach Brad Frost said. "Doing some great things, coming together as a team — our compete level was great. We weren't perfect, but overall we were really, really good."

The Gophers scored goals in the last seconds of the first and second periods for a 1-1 tie and a 3-2 lead. Nicole Schammel got Minnesota's first goal with three seconds left in the opening period. Patti Marshall scored the visitors' second goal midway through the middle period, and Caitlin Reilly got the third with 12 seconds left.

Bemidji State (1-4-1, 0-2-0) tied the score for a third time on Emma Terres' goal at 4:44 of the third period.
