Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen, who was a three-time All-America player in college, was among nine former Gophers athletes inducted into the "M" Club Hall of Fame on Thursday night.
"You are some of the greatest Gophers in our history," athletic director Mark Coyle said at the ceremonies, "and it is my honor to see all of you enshrined in our Hall of Fame."
The other eight: Shannon Beeler, softball; Del Cerney, swimming; Steve Comer, baseball; Omar Douglas, football and track; Russ Fystrom, gymnastics; Terri Jashinsky, swimming; Jordan Leopold, hockey; and Adam Steele, track.
Fystrom was on the Gophers gymnastics staff for 36 years after his college career.
Leopold was the 2002 Hobey Baker Award winner and a 2006 U.S. Olympian.
Steele was the 2003 NCAA champion at 400 meters.

• The No. 20 Gophers women's cross-country team placed 10th in the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. Madeline Strandemo was the team's highest finisher, taking 10th in 20:14.5 for the 6K race. That time was a personal record and third fastest in program history.
• In the same Nuttycombe Invitational, the Gophers men's team placed 12th, led by Obsa Ali, who was 29th in the 8K race in 24:07.9.
• The Gophers softball team routed Concordia (St. Paul) 16-0 in a 10-inning exhibition game. It was scoreless until the Gophers scored nine runs in the sixth inning. Three came home on Danielle Parlich's triple. Kendyl Lindaman and Sydney Dwyer hit home runs for Minnesota.
