The No. 1 Gophers volleyball team needed five sets Friday night to beat the host team in the Boise State Classic, winning 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 15-12.

Minnesota coach Hugh McCutcheon said all three of the other teams in the tournament — none of them ranked — were good and he didn't expect any rollovers.

The Gophers (10-0) led the Broncos (6-4) only 12-11 in the fifth set before closing strong. Freshman hitter Stephanie Samedy had a season-high 26 kills plus 12 digs and four blocks. Alexis Hart added 19 kills, her season high as well, and hit .432

Earlier, Samedy had 16 kills and 10 digs and hit .405 in Minnesota's 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-7 victory over Oregon State (8-2). Hart had 11 kills and Molly Lohman 10 in that match while 6-5 Regan Pittman had seven kills and seven blocks.
