No. 5 Nebraska won the last five matches to defeat the No. 12 Gophers 21-11 on Friday night in a Big Ten wrestling match at the Sports Pavilion.

Minnesota (4-3, 3-2 Big Ten) led 11-3 at intermission after Brett Pfarr and Michael Kroells beat ranked wrestlers at 197 pounds and heavyweight.

No. 2 Pfarr decisioned No. 7 Aaron Studebaker 5-3, and No. 8 Kroells edged No. 15 Colin Jensen 7-6.

At 125, No. 5 Tim Lambert of the Cornhuskers (10-1, 3-1) pinned No. 6 Ethan Lizak at 3 minutes, 54 seconds to make it 11-9 and start their comeback.

Other winners for the Gophers were Nick Wanzek at 165 in the opening match and Chris Pfarr, Brett's brother, at 174.

• The Gophers men's tennis team opened its spring season with 7-0 home victories over South Dakota State and Marquette.

• The Gophers women's gymnastics team beat Michigan State 193.875 to 193.000 in East Lansing in its Big Ten opener. Minnesota senior Bailie Holst won the all-around (39.175) and tied for first on the uneven parallel bars (9.850) and in floor exercise (9.825). Teammate Abby DeMuse won the balance beam (9.825) and tied for first in the vault (9.775).

• Gophers freshmen Megan and Bethany Hasz, twin sisters from Alexandria, Minn., took 1-2 in the 3K run at the St. Thomas Invitational. Among other Minnesota freshmen winning events in the meet were Alyssa Faucett in the 200, Abby Kohut-Jackson in the 800 and Hannah Arason in the long jump.

• St. Cloud State remained No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division II wrestling coaches association's poll. Huskies senior Austin Goergen is the top-ranked heavyweight. Teammate Vince Dietz, a sophomore, is No. 3 at 197 pounds. Two other NSIC wrestlers are also ranked third: senior Blake Bosch of Minnesota State Moorhead at 133 and senior Adam Cooling of Minnesota State Mankato at 174.
