Kelly Pannek had two goals and two assists and Kate Schipper added a goal and two assists Sunday in leading the No. 2 Gophers over Minnesota State Mankato 5-3 in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Faceoff Classic at Edina's Braemar Arena.

Minnesota (16-3-2, 12-2-2-2 WCHA) led 1-0 after one period and used a three-goal second period to pull away before adding an empty-net goal with 15 seconds remaining, in the third period.

Sidney Peters made 16 saves for the Gophers, who outshot the Mavericks 37-19.

Corbin Boyd and Hannah Davidson scored for Minnesota State (6-15-2, 3-12-1-0 WCHA) and Brianna Quade made 32 saves.

MSU tied the score at 1-1 with Boyd's first goal of the game midway through the second period, before the Gophers knocked in three consecutive goals.

"It was a really fun atmosphere and a really good hockey game here," coach Brad Frost said. "Once again, just a great event with the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game. We're very fortunate and blessed to be a part of it, and hopefully we can do it again."

The game goes down as a nonconference victory for the Gophers over their WCHA foes. The statistics count in NCAA rankings, but the result does not affect the WCHA standings.
