MINNEAPOLIS - Tubby Smith says he's staying put in Minnesota.
The Gophers coach addressed speculation that Alabama might pursue him to replace Mike Gottfried, who resigned this week. Smith said after Wednesday's practice he's happy in Minnesota and not looking for any other jobs. Arizona, also, could be looking after the season in light of Lute Olson's retirement.
Smith said he's not a candidate for any vacancies. He expressed excitement about "where the Gopher program is" and next year's incoming recruits. Smith is in his second season at Minnesota after 10 years at Kentucky.
The Gophers take a 17-3 record, including 5-3 in the Big Ten, into Thursday's game against 19th-ranked Illinois. They've lost 20 straight games to the Illini.
