Gophers-Virginia preview

Preview: The Gophers are trying to go 7-0 for the first time since 1975-76. Minnesota will face a big Virginia lineup that played No. 16 Syracuse close in its last game.

Key players: The Gophers need Ralph Sampson III to continue to improve. His length will be needed against a team that features six players 6-9 or taller. For Virginia, McDonald's All-America freshman guard Sylven Landesberg leads the Cavaliers in scoring at 20.8 points per game.

Numbers: Five Gophers are shooting 70 percent or below from the free-throw line. Virginia forward Mike Scott is averaging a double-double with 12 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
