Big Ten bowl picture

We likely won't know the Big Ten's bowl lineup until Dec. 7, when the final BCS standings are announced. But here's a projected look at how the Big Ten will fill its bowls:

PENN STATE

Projected bowl: Rose, Jan. 1, vs. Southern California.

Comment: The Nittany Lions will go to Pasadena, unless they miraculously sneak into the BCS title game.

OHIO STATE

Projected bowl: Fiesta, Jan. 1, vs. Texas Tech

Comment: If Oregon State beats Oregon to earn the Pac-10 title, USC likely would bump the Buckeyes out of the BCS.

MICHIGAN STATE

Projected bowl: Capital One, Jan. 1, vs. Georgia.

Comment: Ohio State would bump Spartans to Outback if only one Big Ten team makes the BCS.

IOWA

Projected bowl: Outback, Jan. 1, vs. South Carolina.

Comment: Look for the Hawkeyes to leap over Northwestern.

NORTHWESTERN

Projected bowl: Alamo, Dec. 28, vs. Oklahoma State

Comment: Wildcats probably deserve the Outback.

WISCONSIN

Projected bowl: Champs Sports, Dec. 27, vs. Miami (Fla.)

Comment: Badgers have been to Florida frequently, so might land in the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Ariz.

GOPHERS

Projected bowl: Insight, Dec. 31, vs. Nebraska

Comment: Might end up in Orlando for Champs Sports.
