MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Thompson powers Tar Heels to victory

• NO. 1 NORTH CAROLINA 77, KENTUCKY 58: Deon Thompson scored a career-high 20 points to help the top-ranked Tar Heels beat the Wildcats on Tuesday night in Chapel Hill, N.C. Wayne Ellington had 16 points for the Tar Heels, who led by double figures barely 4 minutes into the game and never looked back. North Carolina was again without national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough, who has missed almost three weeks of practice because of a shin injury. Patrick Patterson had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats, who finished with 28 turnovers.

• NO. 12 OKLAHOMA 82, DAVIDSON 78: Blake Griffin scored 25 points and pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds, freshman Willie Warren added 20 points and the Sooners overcame the highest scoring game of Stephen Curry's career to beat the visiting Wildcats. Curry scored 44 points on 12-for-29 shooting and went 6-for-15 from three-point range.

• NO. 11 PURDUE 78, LOYOLA-CHICAGO 46: E'Twaun Moore scored 14 points as the Boilermakers beat the visiting Ramblers and advanced to the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals.

• NO. 25 WISCONSIN 88, SIU-EDWARDSVILLE 58: Jon Leuer, a reserve from Orono, scored 19 points as the host Badgers beat the Cougars.

AREA MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

NDSU sets records

• NORTH DAKOTA STATE 128, MAYVILLE STATE 64: Ben Woodside, a senior guard from Albert Lea, Minn., scored 28 points and had seven assists as the Bison set several team scoring records in a victory over the visiting Comets. NDSU set records for points in a game and in a half (74), and margin of victory (64).

• SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 78, NORTH DAKOTA 73: Jon DeRock had seven three-pointers and 24 points as the Mustangs beat the host Sioux. Daniel Harkins scored a career-high 23 points for North Dakota.

• HAMLINE 77, ST. OLAF 72: Carl Hipp's 18 points and 13 rebounds led the Pipers to a MIAC victory over the visiting Oles. Tony Thrasher added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Hamline. Bobby Fong scored 22 to lead St. Olaf.

• CONCORDIA (MOORHEAD) 71, MINNESOTA MORRIS 65: John Fraase's career-high 24 points led the Cobbers over the visiting Cougars.

AREA WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Pipers beat Oles

• HAMLINE 80, ST. OLAF 62: Mary Wilkowski's 15 points led the Pipers over the visiting Oles in the MIAC. Jackie Kelly added 14 points for Hamline, and Grace Weinreich had 11. Elyse Erickons' 22 points led St. Olaf.
