NO. 14 OHIO STATE 34, GOPHERS 21

Last update: September 28, 2008 - 7:42 PM

NO. 14 OHIO STATE 34, GOPHERS 21

Recap: The Buckeyes turned three Gophers turnovers into 17 points and had a 34-6 lead early in the fourth quarter. Ohio State freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor proved to be as elusive as advertised, and running back Chris Wells was impressive in his return from injury. The Gophers offense was held in check until it mounted two fourth-quarter scoring drives.

UP NEXT: VS. INDIANA

When, where: 11 a.m. Saturday, Metrodome

TV, Radio: Big Ten Network, 830-AM

Records: Gophers 4-1, 0-1 Big Ten; Indiana 2-2, 0-1

The skinny: The Hoosiers have speed on offense, as witnessed by the big plays made against a strong Michigan State defense -- scoring plays of 78 and 79 yards. QB Kellen Lewis was hard for the Gophers to handle last season. But the Hoosiers couldn't stop the Spartans, and it wasn't Javon Ringer who gave them problems, at least early; Ringer had 90-plus yards rushing yards in the fourth quarter. No, it was Spartans QB Brian Hoyer who got things going. He passed for 261 yards and two touchdowns, including an 82-yarder to Charlie Gantt.

BIG TEN SNEAK PREVIEW

NO. 14 OHIO STATE AT NO. 18 WISCONSIN

When, where: 7 p.m. Saturday, Camp Randall Stadium

Records: Ohio State 4-1, 1-0 Big Ten; Wisconsin 3-1, 0-1

The skinny: A resurgent Buckeyes team travels to Wisconsin, which snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in Michigan on Saturday. Anyone who thinks the Big Ten gives the Gophers a crummy schedule, think of Wisconsin. At Michigan, then this week vs. the Buckeyes, then Penn State. Wisconsin will be a desperate team playing an early must-win game.

Suddenly significant?

Michigan's offense clicked in the second half Saturday, rallying from a 19-0 deficit to post the biggest home comeback in Wolverines history. Have Rich Rodriguez's guys got it going? If so Michigan might force itself into the conference title mix.
