Guards Stabresa McDaniel and Tory Jacobs were granted releases from the Gophers women's basketball team Tuesday, making them the fourth and fifth players to leave the program after just one season under coach Marlene Stollings.

McDaniel, a sophomore from Dallas, played in 22 games — averaging 7.2 minutes — and scored 1.8 points per game. Jacobs, a freshman from Irving, Texas, averaged 6.9 minutes in 29 games, scoring one point per game.

Junior forward Jackie Johnson of Eden Prairie, freshman guard Grace Coughlin of Edina and freshman forward Rangie Bessard of Rosharon, Texas, left the program earlier this season.

With two transfers and one freshman set to join the team next season, that puts the roster at 11.

An awards sweep

The Gophers swept the four major awards in Big Ten women's swimming and diving this year.

Kierra Smith was named the conference swimmer of the year, Yu Zhou the diver of the year, and Kelly Kremer and Wenbo Chen the swimming and diving coaches of the year, respectively.

Smith, a junior, won the national title in the 200 breaststroke of 2:04.56, the third-fastest time in NCAA history.

Zhou, a sophomore, claimed the national title in 3-meter diving in the NCAA meet, took third in 1-meter and fifth in the platform competition. She was named NCAA diver of the year.

Kremer and Chen guided Minnesota to its fourth consecutive Big Ten Championship.
