Allina Starr, a 5-10 guard who played at Auburn, will transfer to Minnesota, Gophers women's basketball coach Marlene Stollings announced Wednesday.

It's a return home for Starr, who helped lead DeLaSalle to three consecutive Class 3A state titles (2011-13).

She can begin practicing with the Gophers immediately but must sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules. She will be eligible to play at the start of the 2016 spring semester and will have three years of eligibility left.

"Allina is a proven winner and a welcome addition to the Gopher family," Stollings said in a statement. "We are excited to have a local superstar return home."

The Islanders had a 115-20 record during her Starr's five-year prep career. She scored 20 points in the 2013 championship game and was named to the all-tournament team for the third-consecutive year.

As a senior, she averaged 18.9 points and 9.1 assists per game and was named to the 2013 Associated Press All-State team. Starr also earned all-metro and all-conference accolades in her final three years with the Islanders.

Following her prep career, Starr played one season at Auburn. She appeared in 20 games for the Tigers in 2013-14 and averaged 2.5 assists.
