gophers women's gameday

7 p.m. vs. Southern • Williams Arena • Pay-per-view TV: BTN Plus (1500-AM)

Gophers at a glance: It wasn't the same fast-paced offensive performance as Minnesota demonstrated in scoring 109 and 93 points, respectively, in a pair of season-opening victories, but the Gophers (3-0) continued to show a well-rounded attack in a 68-62 victory Sunday at Memphis. Rachel Banham, who got into early foul trouble, scored all 14 of her points in the second half, helping the Gophers rally after they trailed by 10 points in the first half. … Senior transfer Shae Kelley had her third straight 20-point game, and she was named the Big Ten's player of the week. Kelley (20.7 points per game) is one of four Gophers averaging double figures in scoring.

Jaguars at a glance: Southern (1-3) limps into Williams Arena following a 62-42 loss to Illinois — the team's third straight defeat after opening the season with a win over Mobile on Nov. 17. And the loss in Champaign, Ill., may have been the Jaguars' worst, as they shot just 17.2 percent after halftime, after which a 27-27 tie turned into a blowout. … Despite their struggles, the Jaguars have 10 upperclassmen on the roster, many of which played key roles on a team that won the SWAC regular-season title last year.
