St. Cloud State upsets No. 2 Union

• ST. CLOUD STATE 3, UNION 2: Brooks Bertsch's goal in the ninth minute of the third period gave the No. 9 Huskies an upset over the Dutchmen (5-1) on Saturday night. Andrew Prochno and Blake Winiecki had goals in the first six minutes of the middle period to give visiting St. Cloud State (2-2) a 2-1 lead. But No. 2 Union, the defending NCAA champion, tied the score with 14 seconds left in the second period on Mike Vecchione's penalty shot.

• NORTH DAKOTA 2, PROVIDENCE 2 (OT), tie: Nick Saracino's goal with 39 seconds left in the third period for No. 5 Providence tied the score at 2-2 and that's the way it ended at Ralph Engelstad Arena. No. 3 UND won the series 6-1. But Providence (1-2-1) outshot the home team 33-26 in the rematch. Luke Johnson and Austin Poganski scored goals for UND (4-1-1). … North Dakota senior forward Mark MacMillan, UND's leading scorer with five goals in five games, will be out indefinitely after undergoing left wrist surgery Saturday morning.

• UMASS-LOWELL 2, MICHIGAN STATE 1: Michael Kapla's shorthanded goal in the first minute of the third period enabled the No. 7 River Hawks (3-1-1) to edge the Spartans (1-3) in the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge. RJ Boyd scored for Michigan State.

• BOSTON U. 3, MICHIGAN 2: The No. 12 Terriers (3-0) rallied for two goals in the third period to beat the No. 14 Wolverines (2-2) in the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge. Zach Werenski and Alex Kile scored power-play goals for visiting Michigan.

• MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO 4, ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE 1: Bryce Gervais scored twice as the Mavericks (4-2, 2-0 WCHA) swept the visiting Chargers (0-6, 0-4) in a WCHA series.

• MINNESOTA DULUTH 6, DENVER 1: Austin Farley, Cal Decowski and Sammy Spurrell each had a goal and an assist for the host Bulldogs (3-3, 1-1 NCHC) against the Pioneers (3-1, 1-1). The game was scoreless until Karson Kuhlman's shorthanded goal for UMD at 5:06 of the second period.
