UMD pulls away in third

• MINNESOTA DULUTH 6, MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO 2: Dominic Toninato's shorthanded goal for the Bulldogs early in the third period broke a 2-all tie and Jared Thomas scored two goals later as UMD won in Mankato despite being outshot 38-20. Both teams are 2-2.

• MASSACHUSETTS 4, MICHIGAN ST. 3: Patrick Lee's goal with nine seconds left gave UMass (1-2) the win in the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge. Matt Berry had two goals and an assist for the Spartans (1-1).

• MICHIGAN 2, NEW HAMPSHIRE 1: Michael Downing and Cutler Martin scored goals 1:22 apart early in the second period as the Wolverines (1-2) edged the host Wildcats (1-2) in the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge.

• MIAMI (OHIO) 2, OHIO STATE 1: Alex Wideman's goal for the RedHawks (3-1) at 13:38 of the third period broke a 1-all tie. Anthony Greco scored for visiting OSU (1-3).

• NORTHERN MICHIGAN 4, WISCONSIN 1: The Wildcats had only 18 shots but made the most of them in Green Bay, Wis. Dominik Shine had a goal and an assist for Northern Michigan (2-0). Brad Navin scored for the Badgers (0-4) with 1:33 left to play.

• Mario Lucia, the son of Gophers coach Don Lucia, had a hat trick as Notre Dame defeated visiting Lake Superior State 5-1. The junior wing has five goals this season. … Sophomore Jake Guentzel, whose dad Mike is the Gophers' associate head coach, scored the winning goal and had one assist as Omaha beat Western Michigan 3-0.

• Michigan State's Brent Darnell was suspended for Saturday's game against Massachusetts by the Big Ten. The action came after Darnell hit a player from behind in Friday's game; he received a major penalty and a game misconduct at the time.
