Gophers senior Zach Siegmeier will compete in the pole vault Wednesday on the first day of the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, Ore.

Siegmeier, from Lakewood, Ill., successfully defended his Big Ten outdoor title on May 17 by clearing 17 feet, 10.5 inches. He qualified for Eugene when he tied for sixth place at the West Preliminary on May 29 in Fayetteville, Ark., clearing 17-7.

For the women’s team, junior Devin Stanford will compete in the hammer throw on Wednesday. Stanford was 10th at the West Preliminary on May 31 with a mark of 191-11. She is the first Gophers hammer thrower to advance to the NCAA finals since 2007.
