Salisbury University scored a run in the fourth inning and held the St. Thomas offense to four hits to take a 1-0 victory in the first round of the NCAA Division III softball tournament Thursday afternoon in Tyler, Texas.

The Tommies (42-7) will drop to the losers' bracket in the double-elimination tournament.

The game's only run scored when St. Thomas starting pitcher Kendra Bowe walked Salisbury's clean-up hitter, Paige Knussman, on four pitches with two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth.

St. Thomas managed only two hits in the final three innings.
