Senior righthander Sara Moulton and junior third baseman Kaitlyn Richardson of the Gophers were named two of the 25 finalists for the Softball College Player of the Year award. The winner will be named at the start of the women’s World Series.

Moulton, of Eagan, is 19-4 with a 1.16 ERA. Her 10 shutouts tie her for the national lead and she leads the Big Ten in strikeouts with 181.

Richardson, of Phoenix, is hitting .463 for the 14th-ranked Gophers (30-5, 8-2 Big Ten). She has 14 doubles, six homers and 37 RBI, the second most in the conference.

Girls’ basketball scoring issue resolved

It’s official: Rebekah Dahlman is once again the all-time career scoring leader in Minnesota high school girls’ basketball.

The Minnesota State High School League confirmed Wednesday that Dahlman, and not Carlie Wagner, is the state record-holder with 5,060 points. The league had recognized Dahlman, who played six years for Braham, in 2013 when she broke the mark set by Tayler Hill of Minneapolis South in 2009. But it held off making it official until recently receiving statistics to verify her totals.

The league acknowledged Wagner as the record-holder last month during the girls’ basketball state tournament after a semifinal game in which she surpassed Hill’s mark. Wagner, who played for New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, finished her career with 3,957 points.

Etc.

• South Dakota State scored five runs in the first inning and four in the second in routing the Gophers 13-4 in nonconference baseball on Wednesday in Brookings, S.D. Tony Skjefte was 3-for-4 for the Gophers (17-11) with an RBI.

• Former Ohio State men’s hockey coach Mark Osiecki, of Burnsville, will be the next coach of the U.S. national junior team. Osiecki was an assistant coach on three previous teams, including the 2010 and 2013 teams which won gold medals in the World Junior Championships. The tournament will be in Montreal and Toronto from Dec. 26-Jan. 5. Osiecki is currently an assistant coach with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

• Michigan’s Mason Ferlic, a sophomore from Mounds Park Academy, is the Big Ten men’s track athlete of the week. He took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:47.91) in a triangular meet. His time is the fourth best in the country this spring.

• Forward Johnny McInnis, Minnesota State Mankato’s hockey captain this past season, signed an amateur tryout agreement with Lake Erie of the AHL.

• Shattuck-St. Mary’s won its first 14 and under boys’ national hockey title on Sunday, its third 18U boys title in four years, and the 16U girls’ title for the second year in a row.
