The Gophers baseball team gave up 16 walks and hit five Michigan State batters in a 15-0 loss in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday at Siebert Field, then dropped the second game 5-0, giving the Spartans two out of three in the weekend series.

Blaise Salter and Dan Durkin had four RBI each in the first game, and winning pitcher Justil Alleman scattered five hits in eight innings. Jordan Jess (0-4) took the loss for the Gophers (14-9, 3-3 Big Ten).

Salter added a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly in the second game against Ben Meyer (2-2).

U women's tennis wins

The Gophers women's tennis team, which won three Big Ten matches all of last season, improved to 4-1 in the conference with a 5-2 victory over Indiana at the Baseline Tennis Center.

The Gophers (14-4) lost the doubles point, but dominated singles. Tereza Brichacovah won 6-4, 6-1 over Katie Klyczek at No. 1, and No. 4 Julia Courter gave the Gophers the lead for good by dispatching Alecia Kauss, 6-1, 6-4.
