Continued: Reusse: St. Olaf's 'Koz' has name recognition; hungers for MIAC basketball title

Kosmoski understood the potential of this season’s club with eight seniors and a roster that would enable him to go a dozen deep.

“We have 12 guys who have played in 20 games,” he said. “We’ve been getting contributions from players 8 to 12 in our rotation.’’

The MIAC’s 20-game conference season leaves room for only a handful of nonconference games. Kosmoski tested this group with three away games against nationally rated teams — including No. 1 Wisconsin-Stevens Point — in a five-day period in late November.

“We lost to Stevens Point and Augustana [Ill.], and beat [Wisconsin-] Platteville, and I thought it gave extra toughness to this team,” Kosmoski said. “Our guys liked the challenge. They have had a good time trying to put everything together as a team.’’

The Oles hope to get another chance to demonstrate that to the Tommies in a possible MIAC playoff final in early March.
