Two quick goals key UMD upset of Irish

• MINNESOTA DULUTH 4, NOTRE DAME 1: Joe Basaraba and Caleb Herbert scored nine seconds apart in the 15th minute of the opening period to give the Bulldogs (3-2-1) a 2-0 lead Saturday and, before the period was over, Dominic Toninato added a third goal for the home team. The Irish (5-1), ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com national poll, got their lone goal from Austin Wuthrich in the middle of the third period. Notre Dame, which will play host to the Gophers on Nov. 8-9 in South Bend, Ind., had won Friday's series opener 3-2.

• ST. CLOUD STATE 4, COLGATE 3: The No. 10 Huskies scored four unanswered goals in the opening period; the final one, by Nic Dowd shorthanded at 16:02, proved to be the game-winner. Niklas Nevalainen had a power-play goal and two assists for St. Cloud State (3-0-1), and Ryan Faragher had 27 saves.

• BEMIDJI STATE 1, ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE 0: The Beavers (2-3-1) edged the host Chargers (0-4) on Cory Ward's fourth goal of the season midway through the first period. Andrew Walsh made 13 saves for the shutout.

• NORTH DAKOTA 4, U18 U.S. NATIONAL TEAM 1 (EXHIB.): Brendan O'Donnell and Mitch MacMillian each had a goal and an assist as UND beat the under-18 U.S. national team in an exhibition game in Grand Forks, N.D. The NCHC team took a 3-0 lead in the second period, outshooting the younger visitors 17-2.

• UMASS-LOWELL 2, MICHIGAN 1: The No. 18 River Hawks (3-3) upset the No. 4 Wolverines (4-1-1) in Ann Arbor on Adam Chapie's power-play goal with eight minutes left.

• MICHIGAN STATE 3, BOSTON UNIV­ERSITY 1: The Spartans (1-3) scored three goals in the third period to defeat the No. 13 Terriers (3-3) in East Lansing. Brent Darnell and Joe Cox each got their first goals of the season 52 seconds apart with under 5 minutes left to put Michigan State ahead 2-1.

• OHIO STATE 4, ROBERT MORRIS 3: The Buckeyes (2-3) scored all their goals in the second period to take a 4-0 lead. Tyler Lundey's power-play goal with 11 seconds left in the period was the winner.

• VERMONT 5, PENN STATE 2: Matt White scored the game-winning goal midway through the second period and had an assist as the Catamounts (1-1-1) beat the Nittany Lions (2-3) at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
