The No. 9-ranked Gophers women’s volleyball team won twice Saturday in the Dartmouth Duels in Hanover, N.H.

Minnesota’s first match was the toughest. The Gophers beat Connecticut 25-23, 25-19, 16-25, 25-21 Saturday in the Dartmouth Duels in Hanover, N.H.

Seniors Tori Dixon and Ashley Wittman each had double-doubles for Minnesota. Dixon had 17 kills and 12 digs, Wittman 16 kills and 10 digs. This was only the second U match this season that went more than three sets.

In the evening, with Dixon and Wittman resting, the Gophers beat host Dartmouth 25-20, 25-23, 25-20. Freshman Sarah Wilhite had 15 kills and 10 digs while junior Adrianna Nora had 14 kills as the U improved to 12-1.

Sorenson helps U.S.

Rod Perry and Jeff Sorenson, a teaching pro at Columbia Golf Club in Minneapolis, contributed birdies on their last four holes Saturday to win their four-ball match and help the Americans take a 10½-5½ lead over Great Britain and Ireland in the PGA Cup in Hexham, England.

Sorenson made seven birdies in their 3-and-2 four-ball win over Nick Brennan and Gareth Wright.

The PGA Cup, for club professionals, ends Sunday with 10 singles matches.
