Mark Tatera’s pinch hit single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Gophers a 4-3 victory over Nebraska on Saturday in Big Ten baseball at Siebert Field.
It scored Ryan Abrahamson, who had singled and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt, and broke a 3-3 tie.
Abrahamson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Kurt Schlangen was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Matt Halloran was 2-for-4 with one run.
Alec Crawford pitched the first 6⅔ innings and gave up three runs, one earned, and seven hits. Reliever Dalton Sawyer (2-2) finished, got the victory, the first of his career in the Big Ten. He did not allow a hit and struck out the last four batters he faced.
Nebraska, which won 6-0 on Friday, took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when the Gophers (29-17, 12-5 Big Ten) committed three errors.
The victory put the Gophers back in first place in the conference. They play Nebraska (22-26, 13-7) in the rubber game of the three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
