D.J. Snelten pitched a one-hitter and was backed by Tony Skjefte’s sixth-inning homer for the Gophers in a 1-0 victory over Ohio State on Sunday at Siebert Field.

Snelten (2-0) struck out seven and walked one in the 97-minute game, retiring Ohio State 1-2-3 in the seventh, eighth and ninth. The Buckeyes’ only hit came in the third inning, a single that went off Snelten’s glove.

The Gophers improved to 19-13, 4-2 in the Big Ten. They will return to action Friday at Northwestern.

Softball team splits

Meghan McIntosh pitched a five-inning no-hitter for Wisconsin in beating the Gophers 10-0 in the first game of a softball doubleheader, but the host Gophers gained a split when they won 8-0 in the nightcap in Sara Moulton’s 20th victory.

Swarm’s streak ends

Callum Crawford had four goals and four assists — his fifth consecutive game of eight or more points — but the Swarm saw its winning streak end at three games with a 15-13 loss to the Philadelphia Wings on Sunday in Philadelphia.
