The Gophers beat Iowa 7-3 and 10-1 in a softball doubleheader in Iowa City. Sara Moulton went the distance for the Gophers (20-10, 3-0 Big Ten), scattering nine hits but giving up only one earned run. Kari Dorle, her catcher, went 2-for-3 with a three-RBI double in the fourth inning. Leadoff hitter Tyler Walker was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Maddie Eckstrom led the Gophers in the second game with three RBI while Walker was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.

Iowa (19-11, 0-3) stranded 12 runners in the doubleheader.

U third in gym meet

The Gophers gymnastics team, which was the regular-season conference co-champion with Michigan, placed third in the Big Ten Conference meet in East Lansing, Mich.

Nebraska won the meet for the second consecutive year with a score of 197.800, followed by Michigan (197.225). Freshman Lindsay Mable led the third-place Gophers (196.775). She was part of a five-way tie for first on the balance beam (9.950).

Etc.

• Senior Haley Spencer of the Gophers finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:06.15) in the NCAA women’s swimming and diving meet in Indianapolis. Minnesota finished 10th as team.

• Bloomington native Keri Herman won the World Cup slopestyle skiing title Saturday, finishing atop the standings with 200 points after the final event of the season in Sierra Nevada, Spain.

Herman did not compete in the event, but two victories in two events earlier this season gave her enough points to win her first World Cup title. Slopestyle skiing will make its Olympic debut in 2014, and Herman is a top candidate for the U.S. team.

• Maggie Nichols of Little Canada helped the U.S. win the senior women’s team gymnastics championship at the Jesolo Trophy in Jesolo, Italy. Nichols, a member of the Twin City Twisters club, placed sixth in the all-around competition.

• The Gophers men’s tennis team edged Michigan State 4-3 in East Lansing, getting the deciding point on Rok Bonin’s 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Teammates Jack Hamburg and Juan Pablo Ramirez won in straight sets at No. 3 and 5 singles, respectively.
