Senior center Tommy Hanson had 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half and top-ranked St. Thomas used a 28-11 margin in points from the free-throw line to hold off Wheaton 68-58 on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament in St. Paul.

St. Thomas (28-1) improved to 16-0 at home this season and ran its season winning streak to 12. The Tommies will learn Sunday if they will play host to a third-round game March 16 over Calvin (Mich.), a 67-58 winner at Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Calvin is 25-3.

Hannon added 10 rebounds for the 10th double-double of his career. Will DeBerg had 13 points and Zach Riedeman had 11 for St. Thomas, which converted 28 of 39 foul shots vs. Wheaton (21-6).

NSIC men

Minnesota State Mankato 73, Bemidji State 68: Jarvis Williams scored 20 points to help the Mavericks (26-4) win the NSIC tournament championship game over the Beavers (18-12) in Rochester.

Assem Marei scored 19 points for the Mavericks, who trailed by one point at halftime. Lance Rongstad scored 20 points and Mason Walters 19 for the Beavers (18-12).

Augustana 81, Minnesota State Mankato 73: Emily Schulte scored 19 points to help the Vikings (24-6) upset the Mavericks in the NSIC championship game in Rochester. The Vikings had lost to the Mavericks (25-5) twice during the regular season, 80-79 and 78-73.
