The No. 3-ranked Gophers, competing without head coach J Robinson, beat No. 5 Ohio State 25-9 in Columbus. Robinson missed his first match in 27 years at the U because of a knee infection.

The No. 3-ranked Gophers, competing without head coach J Robinson, beat No. 5 Ohio State 25-9 in Columbus. Robinson missed his first match in 27 years at the U because of a knee infection.

The Gophers (9-1, 3-0 Big Ten) trailed the Buckeyes (7-2, 1-2) at intermission 9-8 but won the final five matches at the heavier weights.

Cody Yohn started the rally with a 3-1 decision in overtime at 165 pounds. Logan Storley and Kevin Steinhaus had four-point major decisions at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively. Scott Schiller won 5-2 at 197, and Tony Nelson won 3-1 at heavyweight.

"Our upper weight classes need to have more energy," Buckeyes head coach Tom Ryan said. "At the 4 1/2-, 5-minute mark, we were slowing down and Minnesota was not. With our light weights like Hunter [Stieber], we tried to move the weight classes up and down to help win matches, but it really didn't work."

Other winners for the Gophers were Chris Dardanes at 133 and Dylan Ness at 149 pounds. Both won on major decisions, too.

Jones sprains ankle

Tyus Jones did not play for Apple Valley on Thursday night after spraining his left ankle in Wednesday's practice. Apple Valley beat Burnsville 73-44. It was the fourth game the top recruit has missed this season. Back problems forced Jones to exit a Dec. 18 game against Hopkins, and he missed the next three games before returning on Jan. 5.

The ankle injury doesn't appear to be serious. Jones said he is day-to-day and should be ready to play by next week.

A bad ankle won't change his weekend plans to take an unofficial visit to Kentucky. Though NCAA rules allow him to start taking official visits as of this past week, Jones said he won't take any until after the high school season.

Dubay joins 1500ESPN

Jeff Dubay has been hired as a permanent co-host with Judd Zulgad on 1500ESPN's 9 a.m.-to-noon radio program, the station confirmed Friday. Dubay, formerly a 9-noon co-host on KFAN (100.3-FM) with Paul Allen, will begin his new job Monday.

This represents a fresh start for Dubay, whose addiction to crack cocaine led to his arrest in 2008 and time in the workhouse in 2010. It also led to KFAN firing him after 10 years as co-host with Allen.

Lynx cut backup guard

Guard Erin Thorn, a 10-year WNBA veteran, was waived by the Lynx. She averaged 2.0 points and 0.9 assists last season.
