New St. John's University head football coach Gary Fasching named Kurt Ramler, a 1997 Johnnies graduate and recent finalist for the school's head-coaching vacancy, as associate head coach and offensive coordinator.

Jim Gagliardi, who was offensive coordinator for his father John, has been reassigned. He will coach wide receivers and be the school's coordinator of football operations. His father retired late last year after 60 seasons as St. John's coach.

Ramler, who is expected to begin his full-time post next week, compiled a 22-38 record as head coach at Carleton from 2006-11. He was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year in 2008 after leading Carleton to a 7-3 record, its best season since 1992.

"Kurt is a young, energetic and innovative coach who will bring great enthusiasm and experience to our program," Fasching said in a news release. "He is also a proven recruiter and will attract quality student-athletes to Saint John's."

Prior to Carleton, Ramler served as an offensive assistant at four institutions, including a one-year stint at St. John's in 2002. Ramler was 27-3-1 as a starting quarterback for the Johnnies and threw 87 touchdown passes. He was named MVP of the MIAC as a senior

J Robinson to miss meets

Wrestling coach J Robinson will not travel to Ohio State and Indiana for Minnesota's dual meets this weekend due to a knee infection. The No. 4 Gophers are scheduled to take on No. 5 Ohio State on Friday in Columbus before traveling to Bloomington to face Indiana on Sunday

Robinson said that he is very disappointed to be missing the meets but that he is looking forward to being back coaching the Gophers once the infection is cleared.

Robinson is in his 27th season with the Gophers.

• The Minnesota Stars FC announced its season ticket options for its 2013 soccer season and placed a variety of ticket packages on sale.

The club will offer a 14-game full-season package, an eight-game half-season package and a five-game Metrodome-only package.

General admission and reserved full and half-season packages will continue the club's practice of offering its fans FLEX tickets to use in the way that's most convenient.

FLEX tickets are not dated or game-specific, allowing patrons to miss games without wasting tickets or to use multiple tickets to bring guests to games.
