COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two-time Olympic hockey player Molly Engstrom retired Wednesday from the U.S. women's national team program.
The 29-year-old former University of Wisconsin star was selected the top defenseman in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, leading the United States to a second-place finish. She also played on the bronze-medal team in the 2006 Turin Games, and helped the Americans win four world titles.
"I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be an Olympian and live out my dream," Engstrom said. "I am so grateful for my teammates and friends and the incredible mentors throughout my life who shaped me as a hockey player and a person. I could not have done any of it without them and the support of my family."
Engstrom, from Siren, Wis., had nine goals and 44 assists in 112 international games.
