U women's hockey tops UND to stay unbeaten

The Gophers women's hockey team endured a slow start to Saturday's game against North Dakota, but a four-goal third period propelled the team to a 5-1 triumph over its rival in Grand Forks, N.D. The Gophers remained undefeated at 9-0-0, and UND fell to 4-3-0.

The teams entered the third period tied at 1-1, but the Gophers opened the game up with four goals in the final 10 minutes.

Freshman Hannah Brandt scored twice. Senior goaltender Noora Raty allowed only one goal and made 21 saves. It was her 84th victory, the most in Gophers history.

MIAC cross country championships

St. Olaf used an impressive all-around performance to capture the MIAC men's cross-country championship at Como Park Golf Course in St. Paul. Sophomore Grant Wintheiser won the individual MIAC championship.

The Oles, with a team score of 54 points, had four of the top 14 runners in the field, and all five who scored finished in the top 20.

St. Thomas won a three-team fight for runner-up honors with 97 points. Bethel was four points back.
