Area college football roundup: Mary rallies past Golden Bears

Craig Bagnell threw three touchdown passes to help Mary rally for a 32-26 NSIC victory over Concordia (St. Paul) in St. Paul on Saturday.

The host Golden Bears led 14-3 late in the second quarter, but Bagnell's 3-yard touchdown pass with eight seconds remaining in the half helped the Marauders pull within four points at halftime.

Bagnell, who was 24-for-40 for 359 yards, threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter as the Marauders opened a 24-14 lead.

Bagnell's final TD pass came when Myron Baldoz-McArn recovered a fumble of a 66-yard Bagnell completion in the end zone. That gave Mary a 32-19 lead.

The Golden Bears scored with 1:18 remaining and got the ball back with 12 seconds remaining but fell short.

James Peterson passed for 436 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Bears.

In other NSIC games:

Augustana 35, Northern State 14: Josh Hanson passed for four touchdowns and rushed for a touchdown to lead the host Vikings to the victory.

Hanson opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown run before throwing touchdown passes of 30 and 32 yards in the second quarter to help the Vikings build a 21-7 halftime lead.

Hanson was 13-for-24 for 203 yards, threw a 64-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and an 11-yard touchdown pass in the fourth.

Jared Jacobson rushed for 153 yards to lead the Wolves.

Wayne State 49, MSU Moorhead 6: Nate Most passed for 274 yards and three touchdowns, and Charlie Davidson rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown as the Wildcats ran past the Dragons in Moorhead.

Upper Midwest

Macalester 53, Crown 6: Clark Bledsoe completed 17 of 18 passes for 228 yards to lead the host Scots to the nonconference victory. T. Joe Loiselle and Mike Adams each rushed for two TDs for the Scots.

Martin Luther 36, Maranatha 12: Matthew Olson passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Knights to the nonconference victory in Watertown, Wis.

Simpson 31, Wis.-River Falls 22: Taylor Nelson passed for 398 yards and three TDs to lead the visiting Storm to the nonconference victory.

St. Francis (Ind.) 39, Wis.-Stevens Point 31: The host Cougars rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to give coach Kevin Donley his 256th career victory, tying the NAIA career record for victories.

Whitworth 28, St. Scholastica 13: The visiting Pirates built a 28-0 lead and then held on for the nonconference victory in Duluth. Ronnie Thomas rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns for the Pirates. Tyler Harper threw two touchdown passes in the final seven minutes for the Saints.

Wis.-Platteville 56, Buena Vista 13: The Pioneers scored on their first seven possessions in the nonconference victory in Storm Lake, Iowa.
