Jerry Kill was asked Tuesday to name some "under-the-radar" players who have stood out in the first four days of fall camp. The five he named:
-- K.J. Maye: The freshman from Mobile, Ala., listed as "athlete" on the Gophers' roster, has worked out with the receivers and the running backs, and Minnesota coaches seem in no hurry to define his position. He might be the quickest player on the team.
-- Jamel Harbison: The freshman receiver from Charlotte, N.C., was one of several talented pass-catchers on his high school team, but some of his taller teammates were more highly recruited. Judging from the 5-foot-11 Harbison's first few practices, that may have been a mistake. He's got an amazing knack for getting to just about anything thrown his way.
-- Andre McDonald: The Hopkins freshman already looks the part of a big-time receiver, and the Gophers haven't even gotten him into the weight room yet. He's tall, lean, fast and has great hands. He and Harbison "are learning right now, but they've done some good things," Kill said.
-- Lincoln Plsek: He was a defensive end in high school in Waco, Texas, but his future appears to be at H-back or tight end in Minnesota. Kill likes how well he's making the adjustment.
-- Eric Murray: A cornerback from Milwaukee, Murray will likely need a year to put some muscle on his 6-foot, 180-pound frame, but both Kill and defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys have mentioned in the past couple of days how impressed they are with his pass-coverage talents.
